The Nibelungen Festival is a renowned open-air theatrical event held annually in Worms, Germany, at the very site of the original Nibelungen saga. Since its inception in 2002, the festival has sought to revive this cornerstone of medieval epic poetry, drawing global attention to Worms, a city that was once a vital hub of Europe’s intellectual and cultural life.
Every year, a different writer is selected to stage their unique telling of the Nibelungen story. Uniquely for 2026, Les Enfants Terribles is the first theatre company collectively invited to present their retelling. The play is written by Artistic Director Oliver Lansley and translated into German.
Les Enfants Terribles presents Kriemhild’s story as more than political intrigue: it is a devastating betrayal, an unexpected love, and an epic revenge that upends the power structures of Burgundy and the land of the Huns, showcasing an imaginative tale as deadly as it is bold.
